Rainbow Amethyst & Hematite in Quartz • Brazil

The purple in this piece is not subtle. Deep, saturated, almost magenta amethyst druzy fills the center of this polished oval like a river of crushed berries, sparkling with thousands of tiny crystal points that catch and scatter light in every direction.

The intensity of that color comes from hematite, iron oxide inclusions that darken and deepen amethyst’s natural purple into tones that border on red. This is sometimes called “thunder bay” coloring, though it appears wherever the iron content during formation was high enough to push the stone past violet into something richer.

The amethyst center is surrounded by clear quartz and a grey-blue agate rind that frames the whole piece like a geode sliced open and mounted on display. Hematite adds its own metaphysical layer — it’s one of the most powerful grounding and protective stones, known for dissolving negativity and strengthening connection to the earth.
