Cosmic jasper is a collector’s name for one of Madagascar’s rarest agate varieties, and this specimen shows why it earns the title.

Polished into a tall freeform egg shape, the surface is covered in delicate lace-like banding that flows and ripples in soft blue, dove grey, lavender, and pink, like a weather map of a planet nobody’s named yet.

Dark green and black inclusions are scattered across the surface like continents floating in a mineral sky, and small druzy cavities open where the polish meets the raw interior. The banding alone makes this a geological wonder — each band represents a single episode of mineral rich water flowing into a void inside volcanic rock, depositing silica one impossibly thin layer at a time.
